Monument to the Founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea

Located at the Munsu Square on Munsu Street in Pyongyang, this monument was erected in October 1995 (Juche 84) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK). It was established to perpetually convey the glorious history of the WPK, which led the Korean revolution to victory.

Covering an area of 250,000 square meters and standing 50 meters high, the monument symbolically reflects the 50th anniversary of the WPK’s founding.

At its center are towers shaped like a hammer, sickle, and brush, symbolizing the worker, peasant, and intellectual.

These towers are surrounded by a circular band inscribed with the slogan: “Long live the Workers’ Party of Korea, which organizes and leads all the victories of the Korean people!”

The circular band represents the unity of the leader, the Party, and the working people. It has a diameter of 50 meters. The base of the circular band, with a diameter of 70 meters, symbolizes the long history of the WPK, which began with the “Anti-Imperialist Union.”
